[This news was taken from Takada News, a temporary page set up when I lost telnet access to 3x3 Eyes Info. Excuse any broken links.] February 17, 1998News TidbitsBlue Seed doesn't normally get much coverage here, so I'll give you a little news today. The third episode of the Blue Seed 2 OAV series was released this month. This LD comes with a mini-box (actually more of a big cardboard sleeve) designed to hold all of the Blue Seed 2 OAVs. This is an increasingly common tactic used to get fans to buy more of a series, since if you buy the last LD you get a "free" box. The Blue Seed TV series also had these mini-boxes I believe, and I have heard the Nuku Nuku TV series release will have them as well. I'm not a big Blue Seed fan myself, having only seen a little of the TV series, so I am not buying any of the LDs. The reviewers in the March 98 Animage gave this episode 3 stars out of 5. However, what can you expect from a hot spring episode (besides lots of scantily-clad characters)? I believe this is the last Blue Seed 2 video, and I don't know if any more Blue Seed anime will be made in the future. One other thing: I noticed the web site for Central Anime has moved (the link on the 3x3 Eyes Info Download page is broken), so if you are looking for timed scripts for the new anime series, go to the new Central Anime home. BTW, does anyone have any recommendations for PC subtitling/video capture equipment? I need an external unit, since I have a laptop.
Finally, the Random Thought of the Week: February 3, 1998Secrets of 3x3 Eyes RevealedWell, maybe not. I spent some time over the weekend attempting to translate the table of contents of the 3x3 Eyes no Himitsu (Secrets of 3x3 Eyes) book. Here it is as a zipped JWP file (5.39KB) and a EUC text file (9.56KB) for you UNIX guys and those without JWP. The quality ranges from simple literal translations to wildly inaccurate guessing, so I would appreciate it if someone with real Japanese knowledge would correct my many mistakes and provide some better translations. I will have a new version here after I receive any corrections, but for now you should get the idea. If I get enough requests I may translate a specific chapter or two, or at least provide a summary, but again the quality of the translation won't be that great. 3x3 Eyes FanficsHere's another thing I forgot to mention. If you browsed the Sazan Eyes Ring of the Third Eye like I suggested last time, you should have spotted this cool site, the Sazan Eyes Fanfiction Homeroom. Dark Fiber has done a good job of tracking down all the 3x3 Eyes fanfics available online, and he's even created a few of his own. Coming SoonI think I'm going to keep the Coming Soon section at the end of each update just to let you know what I'm working on. Well, this weekend I decided that I have been manga-less for too long, so I went out and bought volumes 16-26 of the 3x3 Eyes manga (all first printings, and half of them were used). I now have all the manga, except for the unfortunate fact that volumes 1-13 are back at my parents house in the U.S. My dorm has 11-13 in the "library", so I may contribute 1-10 since I can probably find the early used manga for Y100 each. This will allow me to start on my next project, which got underway while I was working on the Secrets... translation. I am creating an EDICT-style dictionary of 3x3 Eyes terms for use with JWP or other software that can use EDICT files. This is relatively painful due to the number of foreign names in 3x3 Eyes (some Chinese beast names simply cannot be added), but I will work on this until a better solution comes along (like Unicode). January 30, 1998New 3x3 Eyes Win95 GameI don't think I mentioned this here before, even though the game has been out for over a month (and I own it). There is a new 3x3 Eyes PC game called 3x3 Eyes ~Tenrin Oh Gemmu~, the third in the series from Nihon Create. This one uses a totally new, very sweet game engine, and has a huge amount of graphics and sound. It comes on two CD-ROMs, and anything but a minimum install takes lots of HD space (I had to temporarily remove it to install Quake II ^_^;;). A word of warning: if you don't have Japanese Win95 this game will not be happy. I got it to work, but not very well, so I'm waiting for Japanese Windows before I do a preliminary review. Go grab some screenshots and stuff from the Nihon Create and Young Magazine pages. You may want to check out the Nihon Create's other 3x3 Eyes games too. All of these sites are Japanese-language only. By the way, a lot of new 3x3 Eyes pages have popped up recently. Until I update my Links page <groan>, go follow the Sazan Eyes Ring of the Third Eye. Peace out to the other webmasters, keep up the good work. January 27, 19983x3 Eyes 10th Anniversary Contest OpensThe contest is now open, so start sending in your entries. Go to the contest page and read all about it. You can win cool prizes, so why not enter? January 13, 19983x3 Eyes Manga #27 PublishedTo my surprise, I came across volume 27 of the 3x3 Eyes manga in a bookstore last Friday. This was just released on January 7, 1998. I went ahead and bought it, even though I am currently missing volumes 13-26. I have no idea what is going on, but it sure looks cool. That Yakumo is one bad mother. ^_^;; (BTW, I recognised one of the later chapters from a Young Magazine I bought back in August or September, so I would imagine that the current Young Magazine stories will be near the end of the eventual volume 28, and the story will roll on to volume 29.) RPG NewsI forgot to mention this last time, but Henrique de Moraes Holschuh has released the first public draft of his 3x3 Eyes GURPS RPG. From his post on the 3x3 Eyes ML:
Even those of you who have no interest in what us "RPG weirdos" do in our spare time, might want to browse the RPG for a bit. There are seriously thought-off theories about the 3x3 Eyes universe in there ;-) as well as descriptions at the usual not-needed-for-anything-else-but-RPGs-and-technical-manuals level. Henrique has put a lot of work into this, and I suggest you take a look. I also just got some mail from Michael Surbrook, who is porting Henrique's RPG to the Hero System. Check out his Hero System 3x3 Eyes RPG, and if you dig this anime RPG stuff then you'll want to check out Michael's homepage, too. He's got lots of anime-related Hero Games stuff there, including a Silent Möbius RPG. Go to the News Archives for an index of past updates. |
