The winning entry was submitted by Daniel Jackson. Here is his introduction:
Title of Entry: The Vengeance of the Resurrected King Supporting material is attached (3x3Eyes6.doc) as an MSWord 97 doc file. Size of file approx 300Kb (I hope this isn't too big. My version of pkzip has recently started corrupting the files I compress so I couldn't make it any smaller, Sorry!) Brief Introduction: This short story takes place almost immediately after the final part of the 3x3 Eyes anime. It is designed to be the first episode(s) of the series to set scene and bridge the gap between the 5 Videos and a new series allowing as much continuity as possible. It reintroduces almost every major character in the anime and several new ones. Since it is quite difficult to come by much manga where I live (Southampton, England) my only real source of information for 3x3 Eyes comes from the anime and what I've read on the internet so in an aim to keep in line with the established anime storyline I could well have contradicted the manga. One extra note: This is my first 3x3 Eyes fanfic and if you're not too busy, I would very much appreciate any comments and/or suggestions on it. Thanks
Here is the original Word 97 file (zipped, 64.8 KB) and a zipped RTF file (55.6 KB) of the same thing. A Word 97 file viewer is available free from Microsoft.
Daniel selected 3x3 Eyes manga volumes 3-8 as his prize.
The entry submitted by Henrique Holschuh was judged worthy of an honorable mention prize. Here is his introduction (from the README file):
My guess is: 3x3 Eyes ~Return of the True Seima~. Reasoning: The next story arcs in the manga. The attached material, an interactive fiction game (aka Text Adventure game), was coded with the sole purpose of illustrating the prologue of the first OAV in the ~Return of the True Seima~ series, called "Grand Year Chapter". [...] The game is in TADS bytecode format. To run it, you will need to download the TADS V2.2.1.0 (or newer) runtime for your platform. Precompiled runtimes for a number of platforms such as DOS, DOS-Extended (used to develop the game), Microsoft Windows (3.11, 95&NT), Solaris (used to develop the game, in an UltraSPARC no less ;-) ), Amiga, Macintosh and a few others, as well as the source code are available for download at GMD's if-archive. Beware of a bug known as "Daemons die on restore" which plagued some TADS runtimes before V2.2.1.0. This bug may make it impossible to use the save game function (actually, the restore from saved game function), as I did use daemons (akin to Unix daemons, not the kind Yakumo keeps kicking around). Get a V2.2.1.0 runtime and you will be in safe grounds. The TADS compiler and runtime may be downloaded from: THE Interactive fiction archive: ftp://ftp.gmd.de/if-archive/programming/tads/executables/ ftp://ftp.wustl.edu/doc/misc/if-archive/programming/tads/executables/ TELA Design TADS pages: http://www.tela.bc.ca/tela/tads/ [...] And, before I forget: PLEASE DO NOT DISTRIBUTE THIS GAME OUTSIDE OF THE BARE MINIMUM *REQUIRED* BY THE CONTEST RULES. i.e.: if you are not David Park, do not do it. My reason for asking this is quite good, actually: this game was NOT made to infringe upon Yuzo Takada's copyright, or Kodansha's or anyone else's. By distributing it, you will be infringing MY copyright on the game's code as well.
Please read the entire README file included in the entry zip file (135 KB) for instructions on how to play the game. Also, please obey Henrique's wishes and do not redistribute the game in any way. I used the pc-go32.tads2exe.zip runtime to play the game under Win95, and it seemed to work fairly well. the
Henrique will receive the 3x3 Eyes no Himitsu book as his prize (as soon as I can find another copy).
Be sure to look at the other entries, and read the judge's comments.
